Jean-Clair Todibo missed West Ham United's 1-1 draw at Bournemouth on Monday with a "bad toe", according to Jacob Steinberg.

The Guardian journalist posted on X (16 December) before the Hammers' match at the Vitality Stadium, explaining why the OGC Nice loanee was missing from the matchday squad.

An alleged bust-up with Julen Lopetegui had surfaced in recent weeks, but instead, the Frenchman has suffered a new injury in East London.

Steinberg said: "I'm told Todibo is out with a bad toe".

Jean-Clair Todibo faces yet another setback at West Ham United

Todibo's arrival at the London Stadium was arguably the biggest coup the Irons pulled off in the summer, eventually winning out to secure the centre-back for the season and beating Juventus to his signature.

As has been the case for several of the new signings though, things haven't entirely gone to plan for Todibo, being in and out of a team which is still yet to really fire under Lopetegui's stewardship.

While seven of the 24-year-old's 11 Premier League appearances this term have come from the start, he's often been thrown into a Hammers side in disarray with a dysfunctional midfield ahead of him.

The Irons' intentions are for Todibo to become their player permanently in the summer of 2025, and only backdated paying a transfer fee to avoid risking a PSR breach [Sean Whetstone, 11 August].

However, unless the twice-capped French international can resolve his differences with Lopetegui and help steer the Hammers back towards the top end of the table, he may be having second thoughts.
