Jean Clair Todibo has suffered a "hard blow" after missing West Ham United's 3-1 defeat to Leicester City on Tuesday, according to L'Equipe.

The French outlet reported [4 December] that the centre-back is feeling discomfort in his adductor, with the severity of the injury not yet known at the London Stadium.

It is understood that Todibo will be forced to rest "for a while" with the new injury setback, though it is unclear whether this rules him out of the Premier League clash with Wolves on Monday 9 December.

West Ham United hit by Jean-Clair Todibo injury update

Todibo has slowly been adapting to life in England, having been rarely seen in the first few weeks since his move from Nice.

Now, the centre-back has built a growing relationship with Max Kilman in defence, seeing Konstantinos Mavropanos drop down to the bench more often than not.

Of course, there is plenty left to be desired from the Hammers' defence after the first 14 matches of the league campaign, having only won four of those games.

Lopetegui's defence was wide open against the Foxes at the King Power Stadium, conceding almost immediately to Jamie Vardy before goals from Bilal El Khannous and Patson Daka sank them.

Many suggested that rumours of Todibo's injury were just to cover up news of a clash between the player and Lopetegui [Daily Mail], but it now seems more serious than first thought.

With winnable fixtures coming up during the winter period against Wolves, Bournemouth and Southampton, Lopetegui will be hoping that his star centre-back will recover quickly and be ready.

Kilman has more than proven himself since making his £40million move to East London [BBC Sport], but there are far more concerns over the stability of Mavropanos in defence.
