David Moyes in no rush to begin contract talks with West Ham United

David Moyes has said that he is in no rush to begin contract talks to extend his time in charge at West Ham United, despite his current deal ending at the end of the season.

The former Manchester United manager has been in charge at the London Stadium since 2019 and his side have started the season excellently, currently sitting seventh in the Premier League and winning their opening two matches in the Europa League.

Despite that early success and having led the Hammers to the Europa Conference League last season, talks to extend the 60-year-old's stay in East London haven't begun and the Scotsman feels no pressure to begin negotiations.

As quoted by the Daily Mail (21 October) Moyes was asked if he could sign a seven-year extension like Jarrod Bowen, saying: "I would expect so, I'm young enough. I'm looking forward to working as long as I can, but I'll also make a decision when I think it's right to hang up my stopwatch and whistle.

"At the moment I'm fine. I'm only focused on the team doing well, keeping us going and keeping the focus on that. I'm sure there'll be a time that comes when we'll discuss it but I'm happy to go along just now and see what happens."

Wait and see

It feels as though this is a situation that could go either way the London Stadium, but it does seem odd that both parties seem eager to extend Moyes' stay with West Ham, but neither are doing anything to put a contract in place currently.

However, it doesn't appear to be a worry for the former Everton boss who is happy to wait and see what the future holds with the entirety of his focus being on his side's upcoming matches rather than his own future, which should mean that his team aren't distracted by the rumours around his future.

Moyes' time at the London Stadium so far is certainly deserving of a new contract, but there is every chance that the Hammers may feel this is the time to refresh their team and bring in a new style of play to get the best out of the Hammers' attacking talent.

There is still a lot of football to be played between now and the end of the season and a lot can change in football in such a short period of time so as long as the Irons reach a decision before the end of the campaign, it shouldn't worry supporters that no talks seem imminent.
