West Ham United transfer news causes outrage as David Moyes exit verdict shared
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie believes West Ham need to sign a striker that is capable of playing under the system that David Moyes uses.
The Hammers manager currently has Michail Antonio, Danny Ings and Divin Mubama as his striker options after Gianluca Scamacca left in the summer.
As per FootballTransfers (17 November), the East London club are targeting a cut-price move for PSG striker Hugo Ekitike in the January transfer window.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “They’ve done it before with Scamacca. He was never going to be a West Ham player, and now I’m wondering if Ekitike is going to be the same.
“Because West Ham play a certain way, and if you don’t bring in the right players, what’s the point? Spending money for nothing? They did it with Scamacca, with Ings. He can’t play the way West Ham play at the moment. I don’t get it.
“The fans hear it all the time about players we are supposedly going to buy, but we never get any of them. But I’m not going to talk bad about David Sullivan, because nine times out of 10 he’ll put somebody out of a hat and bring them in.

“But it’s got to be somebody that can play at least until the end of the season, if Moyes is leaving, because that’s the way they’re going to play until then. Counter-attacking football. And if you’ve not got a striker who can do that then what’s the point?
“We want a kind of player like Antonio. I remember Sebastien Haller, before Scamacca, he was the best thing since sliced bread. My god, I felt sorry for him, because he plays in a three, and all of a sudden West Ham said play up front on your own, and he couldn’t do it.
“He was obviously so out of his depth playing as a one up front. There are not many players who can do it, you’ve got to be that kind of striker. Haller is now away scoring goals again because he’s in the right setup. If Ekitike can do it, then bring him in, the sooner the better.”
In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to sign a Ukraine sensation in 2024, with an exit for the player “widely expected.”
