West Ham United to trust Julen Lopetegui transfer plan as Max Kilman update emerges
Frank McAvennie has urged West Ham fans to get behind Julen Lopetegui as Wolves’ Max Kilman continues to be targeted this summer.
According to The Guardian [25 June], the Hammers are set to make a third bid for Wolves’ captain, one that will not include a player-plus-cash option, having offered that in their second bid [Fabrizio Romano].
The £45million price tag, which the Midlands club are currently holding out for, has raised some eyebrows this summer, but McAvennie has no problem with the transfer link, with at least one new centre-back needed.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, he said: “He obviously knows him, and managers are always going to go for that – he knows exactly what he’s getting. Lopetegui knows that he’ll be a good player in a good team.
“He’s stood out at Wolves which is always a good sign, so I think he’ll do very well. I think we need two new centre-halves. Kurt Zouma and Konstantinos Mavropanos haven’t done it, and Nayef Aguerd is leaving, who is the best of them all, apart from Angelo Ogbonna.
“You need to have faith in the manager, no matter what has happened before. He’s bringing in players that he knows can play his style, so I don’t see a problem with Max Kilman. I’d go get him and spend some money.”
West Ham United continue to target Wolves captain Max Kilman
As McAvennie alluded to, the Hammers’ current centre-back situation is quite dire, especially now that Ogbonna’s exit has been confirmed.

Having previous experience with the defender at Molineux Stadium, Lopetegui is clearly set on bringing Kilman to the London Stadium and given his sharp rise to the top, it should be a move that West Ham shy away from.
David Moyes’ side had one of the leakiest defences in the Premier League last term, with only Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United conceding more, a concerning fact that needs to be addressed this summer.
