West Ham United to sign Kelechi Iheanacho as ‘no-brainer’ transfer update emerges
Frank McAvennie believes Kelechi Iheanacho should be a “no-brainer” signing for West Ham after becoming a free agent this summer.
According to Nigerian news outlet Soccernet on 4 July, the Hammers are ready to battle Wolves for the striker’s signature, with the player’s contract at Leicester City expiring last month.
With Iheanacho said to be a prime target for new manager Julen Lopetegui this summer, McAvennie has urged the Hammers to waste no time in striking a deal for the 27-year-old.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, he said: “I like Iheanacho. I think he’s a great player. Oh my god, on a free transfer, I’d take him.
“It’s a no-brainer for me, though I’m not sure who this new manager will want.”
West Ham United to sign Kelechi Iheanacho as free agent
Iheanacho has plenty of Premier League experience, having emerged onto the stage during his time at Manchester City and playing alongside Sergio Aguero before moving to Leicester.
He notched 21 goals in 64 appearances for the current league champions, and while his numbers did drop at the King Power Stadium, 61 goals in 232 matches for the Foxes is still a decent showing.

With Michail Antonio and Danny Ings currently the only two striker options at the London Stadium, Lopetegui seems keen to add a new forward to the squad as soon as possible – AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham and Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri both targeted.
However, both of these options would require David Sullivan to open the chequebook, whereas Iheanacho is available on a free transfer this summer and has much more Premier League experience.
In other West Ham news, Julen Lopetegui has already hinted at his London Stadium exit in a new managerial admission.
