West Ham United to sell Said Benrahma in late January transfer with David Moyes decision due

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie has called for West Ham United outcast Said Benrahma to step up at the London Stadium or face a desperate David Moyes exit decision late in the January window.

The Algerian international has been linked with a move away from East London this month, with clubs from France (L’Equipe, 30 December) showing an interest in the big-money West Ham forward.

Also, writing on the Sun’s live transfer tracker on Wednesday (17 January, 09:25pm), journalist Jack Rosser shared that the Hammers are hoping to get more than £20million for the Algerian international this month, but that they are open to a loan move with an obligation-to-buy clause included.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “Listen, we can’t keep relying on Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus, the others have got to step up, to be honest.

I don’t know what David Moyes will do in their absence, but it’s high time Benrahma steps up because he’s been woeful.

“Whether he can be the main man again I really don’t know because I understand the fans’ frustrations. They’re really not happy with him at all.

“All of a sudden, he’s been shunted out of the team when Bowen and them guys are available and I can’t argue with that because he hasn’t shown he’s capable of topping them for a place in the team.

“I’ve heard a lot of clubs are linked with him but I can’t see Moyes selling him given the injuries and absences we’ve got.

“We’ve got to keep him for at least till the end of the month at least if we’re struggling to sign replacements but if things don’t improve from him then I wouldn’t be against Moyes selling him, say late in the January window.

“We can get a decent buck for him but whether clubs will be willing to pay that £20m this month, I can’t see it. Right now, he’s not even worth that at all.”
