West Ham United sources respond to Tim Steidten report as David Sullivan stance emerges

Tim Steidten is not unhappy at West Ham in relation to the new manager or summer transfer decisions, West Ham Zone has learned.

A source familiar with the situation has indicated to West Ham Zone that there is no truth whatsoever to a report in The Sun on 6 October saying that the German is frustrated at the London Stadium after being overruled in the summer.

Steidten was reported to have been upset the Hammers didn’t push through a deal for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran or Lille’s Jonathan David, and while Julen Lopetegui was on his shortlist to replace David Moyes it was claimed his preferred choice was now-Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler.

However, it is understood the Irons technical director has no issues on those fronts and that chairman David Sullivan himself has dismissed suggestions.

With Lopetegui’s reign getting off to an inauspicious start at the London Stadium there would be plenty of scope for dissatisfaction all round, with summer decisions second guessed.

The 4-1 win over Ipswich Town, in which the attacking triumvirate of Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio and Mohammed Kudus shone, has lifted some of the gloom to send West Ham into the international break on a high.

It was Lopetegui’s first win at home, a fortnight after the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on 21 September in front of a dwindling crowd was deemed a “sackable offence” [Tom Rennie].

The Spaniard will need to go a lot further than beating a promoted side to prove he was the right choice to succeed David Moyes yet though.

The Hammers’ early-season struggles have not been helped by the stunning form of Duran at Aston Villa, where he has scored six times in limited minutes after seemingly being bound for the Irons in the summer.

Having only scored eight times in his previous 49 Villa performances few could have foreseen his explosion in recent weeks, so reluctance from West Ham to splash out was a lot more understandable at the time.

Had Niclas Fullkrug not picked up an untimely injury and been a steady presence in attack it would also not seem like such a mistake, but the German has been a relative non-factor so far.

If results don’t continue to improve after the international break then somebody is going to end up carrying the can for it, but it appears Steidten himself is not unsettled as things stand.
