West Ham United season so far verdict shared as ‘battered’ claim made
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie wants West Ham to continue their strong start to the new Premier League season after the international break.
He has, however, urged the club to play better football after they were “battered” by both Chelsea and Brighton in terms of possession.
The Hammers currently sit joint-second in the Premier League table after four matches, two points behind leaders Manchester City.

David Moyes’ side remain unbeaten, defeating Chelsea, Brighton and Luton Town after an opening day draw against Bournemouth.
The East London outfit have scored nine goals from their four matches so far, conceding four times; once in each match.
Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “They’ve not crossed the 30% barrier yet in terms of possession. Possession-wise, they got battered by Chelsea but they beat them 3-1, they got battered by Brighton but they beat them 3-1. The only thing that matters is the goals.
“It might not be good to watch, but long may it continue. However, they’ve got to start playing better. Because these players are good players. West Ham have got really good players.”

The fixtures arrive thick and fast after the international break, with the Hammers meeting Manchester City, Liverpool and Sheffield United this month.
They also have other competitions to compete in, with fixtures against Backa Topola and Lincoln City arriving in the Europa League and EFL Cup respectively before September comes to an end.
In other West Ham news, a Sky Sports journalist has shared a “mistake” verdict on a new Hammers signing.
