West Ham United seal Ollie Scarles contract in incredible new development

Frank McAvennie is buzzing to see West Ham prospect Ollie Scarles put pen to paper on a new contract at the London Stadium.

ExWHUEmployee reported [12 September] that the 18-year-old left-back has signed a four-year deal with the Hammers, with an announcement to be made soon.

It is understood that the Irons have been working closely with “key figure” Mark Noble to help secure the deal, having only signed his first professional contract in December 2022 [YouTube].

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, he said: “I think he’s incredible. He seems to be a dying breed as we keep bringing all these academy kids through and selling them. If they’re going to give him a four-year deal, that’s great.

“I just hope they aren’t going to sign him up to the four-year deal and then sell him on for more money because that could be another way of looking at it. The fans love to see home-grown players coming through – they’ll give him more time than other players.

“I’m delighted with that news. There were a couple of other lads I didn’t want to see leave, though.”

The left-back is clearly well thought of at the London Stadium, with the club working hard to tie him down following a summer of change.

He was handed his first-team debut by David Moyes during the 2022/23 campaign, starting a Europa Conference League game and playing the whole 90 minutes.

While few youngsters have managed to break into the senior set-up, it is vital the club keep these players rather than allow them to move elsewhere, like Divin Mubama joining Manchester City on a free transfer.

Scarles is unlikely to be ready for a huge step up to Julen Lopetegui’s team, but it is massive news to hear him putting pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Hammers.
