West Ham United: PSR concerns dismissed amid Manchester City questions and points deductions

Frank McAvennie has dismissed any concern about profit and sustainability breaches at West Ham as he questioned why Manchester City are yet to be punished.

He also spoke in favour of David Sullivan, who has been vocal about recent rule changes in the Premier League, as he wouldn’t expect the owner to spend over the allowed limit.

After both Everton and Nottingham Forest were handed points deductions by the Premier League, with the Toffees now facing a second charge, McAvennie insisted West Ham won’t get caught up in it.

The former Hammers man – speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone – joked that the mega-rich clubs Manchester City and Newcastle will “bury” any concerns until they are forgotten about.

It’s crazy how they’re getting done when Man City have 115 [charges] and nobody’s saying anything. It’ll be ten years and everybody will forget about it, that’s what they’re doing, and that’s what the Newcastle owners will do, bury it for a couple of years and it’ll be forgotten about,” McAvennie joked.

I don’t think West Ham will get caught up in that, I wouldn’t say that Mr Sullivan has spent too much money, I wouldn’t say he spends too much money on anything.”

West Ham unlikely to be caught up in Premier League PSR drama

This all comes following a claim from Fabrizio Romano during the January transfer window that the Hammers would have to sell players for any new signings to arrive amid concerns over their financial flexibility.

Before the club submitted their financial documents on 31 December, there were concerns that they had come dangerously close to breaching PSR rules, so it makes sense that those concerns were still lingering at the London Stadium.

However, with both Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals having left the club in January, some room for manoeuvre may have been achieved at the London Stadium, and McAvennie’s insistence that they will not be caught up may be right.

Concerns at every Premier League club are running high given the severity of punishments handed to Everton and Forest, with a further charge handed to Leicester City, but any concern at the London Stadium can seemingly be dismissed.

In other West Ham news, a new £25million+ transfer deal could be on the cards.
