West Ham United: Positive update emerges amid Jarrod Bowen injury news

Frank McAvennie has found a positive to take from the Jarrod Bowen injury news at West Ham as he suggested the star man might benefit from an extended period of rest.

The former Hammers forward insisted that David Moyes will be able to cope without Bowen as he did when Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta were injured, but will still miss him.

He went on to explain his hope that Bowen would only be ruled out for one or two weeks at most before he could return to the first team at the London Stadium.

McAvennie – speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone – wished the attacker a speedy recovery, insisting he still has to challenge to make the England squad ahead of the European Championships.

They’ve done without Paqueta and they’ve done without Kudus when they were injured. They’ve done without Antonio as well. If Bowen is out, I think they’ll cope, but they’ll miss him,” McAvennie shared.

He’s a great player to have in your team wherever he plays. I’m hoping it’s not going to be too long, it’ll be one or two games and he’ll be back. It might do him some good to have a week of rest.

I wish him a speedy recovery because everything’s going in his favour and he’s got to try and challenge for the Euros. There’s a couple fighting for his place but I think he should be one of them.”

West Ham hoping Jarrod Bowen injury isn’t serious

This comes after it was reported that Bowen had suffered a “huge” injury blow during the 2-1 Premier League win against Wolves at Molineux and would be ruled out of the Europa League clash with German league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

McAvennie’s positivity that the winger would only be missing for a week or two coincides with the report that his injury blow is not serious and should only be a short-term issue – a huge boost for the Hammers at a key stage of the season.

With their Europa League campaign still ongoing, as well as their efforts to qualify for Europe again through the Premier League where they currently sit in seventh, Bowen’s injury could be a crucial factor in their season.

Not only will the coming months be key for West Ham, but also for Bowen individually, as he looks to cement his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad ahead of the Euros amid plenty of competition for his position.
