West Ham United need another defender as Fikayo Tomori transfer lined up
Frank McAvennie has urged West Ham to sign another centre-back amid links with AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori this summer.
The Hammers have held talks with the Serie A giants about Malick Thiaw and Tomori, according to HITC, with the former Chelsea defender open to a Premier League return this summer.
Despite the addition of Max Kilman to the ranks, Julen Lopetegui is left with Kurt Zouma and Konstantinos Mavropanos alongside, with Nayef Aguerd now open to joining Atletico Madrid [Caught Offside].
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “He’s brought one [centre-back] in but he needs another.
“It’s as simple as that. I couldn’t understand David Moyes being so engrossed in defending but had two of the worst defenders in the league last year.
“Every time I watched them, I was thinking – ‘What are you doing?’ – so they never changed my mind. You never let the ball bounce, but Zouma always let it bounce, and it’s the striker’s ball then.
“If he can get Zouma and Mavropanos working properly, they might be good players. I would have brought two centre-halves last season, so one might be working with Kilman. But last season, they weren’t good.”
West Ham United to push for Fikayo Tomori transfer
Only Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United conceded more Premier League goals than the Hammers last season, with the trio of Zouma, Mavropanos and Aguerd slated throughout the campaign.

Tomori – who was once dubbed “outstanding” by Frank Lampard [Metro] – could add some much-needed stability in the backline during Julen Lopetegui’s first season in charge at the London Stadium.
Since leaving Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2021, the 26-year-old has become an important figure over in Italy, making 121 appearances in all competitions, but could be set for a Premier League return this summer.
