West Ham United must pay up as Danny Ings contract termination update emerges

West Ham will need to “pay up” if they decide to terminate Danny Ings’ contract, Frank McAvennie has said.

The Hammers have informed the 32-year-old that he is no longer needed by Julen Lopetegui, as per TBR Football, with talks already underway to cut his contract short.

Since arriving from Aston Villa in January 2023, Ings has struggled to adapt to life in East London, making just three Premier League starts under David Moyes last season.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “If you’ve got [Michail] Antonio and [Niclas] Fullkrug, who’s going to be the first choice once he’s up to speed, it might just be better to let Ings go and play.

“He may not want to, he might want to fight for a place. If West Ham want to terminate his contract, they’ll have to pay up. If that happens, he’ll want a big move somewhere else.”

West Ham United set to get rid of Danny Ings?

While Ings’ career at the London Stadium has been a disappointing one, it seems a bit harsh to terminate his contract, especially given his lack of opportunities under Moyes last season.

However, if the Hammers are that keen to get him off the books, and the striker rejected a move to Southampton earlier this summer [Sean Whetstone], the club have been left with limited options.

West Ham United striker Danny Ings
Danny Ings could be leaving West Ham United.

He has scored just four goals in 53 appearances for the Hammers, so with Antonio and Fullkrug available alongside a whole host of attacking talents, there will be even fewer chances for Ings to get minutes on the pitch.

The new signing is likely to become the first choice, especially after his showing at Euro 2024, which will leave Antonio as an impact substitute off the bench. Terminating Ings’ contract seems like a simple solution.
