West Ham United make statement after transfer developments at London Stadium

West Ham United’s board have made a statement of intent after going beyond the £100million mark for transfers this summer, according to Dan Plumley.

The marquee signings of Crysencio Summerville and Niclas Fullkrug last weekend took the Hammers beyond £100m following the earlier summer captures of Luis Guilherme and Max Kilman.

Finance expert Plumley said it is not just the financial outlay that deserves credit but the calibre of player they are signing.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, he said: “Yeah, absolutely it’s a statement of intent, we know West Ham are in that bunch of clubs that are looking to consistently compete in Europe and that’s not an easy thing in the Premier League.

“So, this is a statement of intent certainly if you look at, not just at the outlay as well because the fees are always going to be high, but the type of players they’re bringing in as well they are statement transfers for a club like that.

“It is very positive that the club are being backed by the ownership and that kind of backing is where you’re looking at targeting those European places for sure especially with outlay like that and the names they’re bringing in as well.”

West Ham going big in the transfer market

The winds of change have been vast at the London Stadium since the end of last season.

David Moyes has been replaced by Julen Lopetegui and big waves have been made in the transfer market with no sign that the Irons are done just yet either.

The board deserve credit for backing their new boss and Lopetegui will know there is pressure to deliver given the amount of backing he has been given.

But there is plenty of reason to be optimistic as a Hammers supporter with the new Premier League campaign now on the horizon.
