West Ham United: Kevin Nolan could have been sent off after incident footage

Frank McAvennie has hit out at Brentford striker Neal Maupay after his dispute with West Ham coach Kevin Nolan at the London Stadium.

This comes after the pair were captured by the Sky Sports cameras in a heated argument on their way out of the tunnel shortly before the second half of the recent Premier League clash.

The former Hammers man slammed Maupay, labelling him “stupid” for whatever he said at half-time, as he claimed the coach would always stick up for his players at West Ham.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie assured that Nolan would “stamp all over” Maupay, insisting he is not the one to be picking fights with.

I think he [Maupay] is a bigger idiot than what you think because if he wants to pick a fight with Kevin Nolan… Pick a fight with somebody in the stadium but not Kevin Nolan, he’ll stamp all over you,” he warned.

Kevin’s a great lad, but he’ll stick up for the players at West Ham. If Kevin had really reacted to what he was saying then he could’ve been off.

Nolan’s no-nonsense style was typified in the way he responded to Maupay’s taunting, and as McAvennie says, he will always stand his ground and defend his players, whatever it was the Frenchman had done.

The clash between West Ham and Brentford proved to be an ill-tempered affair, with several occasions of both players and coaching staff getting heated, and calls for potential red cards on both sides – although nothing was given on the day.

Brentford’s on-loan striker has established himself as somewhat of a wind-up merchant in the Premier League, with recent comments about Tottenham’s James Maddison flying around on social media, with that seemingly the focus of his game.

At the London Stadium, just like against Tottenham, Maupay’s actions were met with a victory for his opponents, this time with Jarrod Bowen the man to seal his fate with a fantastic hat trick which earned him high praise as a result.
