West Ham United: Kalvin Phillips exit update emerges at London Stadium

Dan Plumley has shared that FIFA rules could help West Ham if they wanted to send Kalvin Phillips back to Manchester City early.

The midfielder has endured a nightmare spell at the London Stadium, even swearing at fans, many whom already want him gone from the club.

The football finance expert insisted that responsibility falls back on the parent club, but it does get tricky on a legal front when attempting to end a loan.

“To the best of my knowledge, the responsibility falls back on the parent club,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.

“It’s really tricky and gets into legal, technical FIFA contractual stuff on loans.

Essentially, if the loan is terminated by unforeseen circumstances or the player in this instance says he is not happy, the obligation to then reintegrate that player into the squad is on the home club.

If they don’t then do that, the player can get into a dispute about contractual obligations and all kinds of things.

I guess, we don’t see this one playing out like that but most of the responsibility would fall back on Manchester City, they can get into a negotiation with West Ham if it breaks down about the terms of the contract and what was agreed, so you have to go right down into the details of the legal framework.

It is unlikely given all of those things as there will be an agreement on the table and more often than not, these things get seen out.

It is an interesting one because when FIFA changed the rules a few years ago, it does put more of that responsibility on the parent club if a loan move goes particularly wrong so one to keep an eye on.”

Kalvin Phillips back to Manchester City?

With the England international already not expected to make his loan switch permanent in the summer, the countdown is already on for all parties.

David Moyes is likely to keep him around until the end of the Premier League season, but a fresh start is certainly what Phillips needs in his career.
