West Ham United in new transfer push as ‘Madness’ emerges in Premier League

Dan Bardell has suggested that West Ham United could be put off by Wolves’ asking price for Max Kilman who may be forced to sell this summer.

A report from The Guardian (21 June) has suggested that Wolves could demand up to £45 million for their captain this summer, with prices labelled “Madness”.

This evaluation came after the Hammers offered £25m for the Englishman which was swiftly rejected with an improved bid now being readied.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes the 27-year-old would be a useful addition but the fee will play its part in a deal.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Bardell said: “Kilman is a good player but £45m definitely seems a bit steep.

Even with PSR in the mix, prices for players in the Premier League are absolutely madness.

He is a player who has done really well with Wolves and is obviously captain there now. I think for them to be able to buy players this summer they need to be a club that regularly sells a star to compete.

He’s worked with Lopetegui before and Kilman may want to work with him again but I can’t see West Ham spending £45m on him.

I understand why Wolves would want that much but he isn’t someone I see West Ham forking out for.

West Ham United want Max Kilman

The Hammers need a centre-back option since Angelo Ogbonna departed the London Stadium at the end of his contract.

Nayef Aguerd has also been linked with a move away this summer and could need replacing if a deal does go through.

Kilman could prove to be a great signing for West Ham although the fee involved is certainly on the high side of what they might look to spend.

He is a player who is positive with the ball at his feet which could allow him to play alongside Kurt Zouma in a useful pairing.

The Englishman has worked alongside Lopetegui in his time with Wolves so there is already a link between the Hammers and their target.

This could make a deal easier although the potential fee will certainly still prove to be a stumbling block for both sides.

If a deal can be struck this summer, Kilman would improve the West Ham defence, there is no doubt.
