West Ham United deal at London Stadium not impossible after BetWay news – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Ham United columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium...

Dan Plumley has insisted that it will not be impossible for West Ham United to sort out a deal with BetWay to place sponsorship on the London Stadium.

With the betting ban coming into force soon on Premier League shirts, clubs are already looking at other ways to benefit financially from new partnership.

The finance expert admitted that the Hammers would need to negotiate with the LLDC, who currently own the London Stadium, therefore making this one difficult.

“That’s where some of the questions arise around a deal like this,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.

“It makes it harder for West Ham but not impossible as you have to look to negotiate with another partner, in this case, those who own the stadium.

It makes it more of a challenge as they cannot do what they want, but that doesn’t make it impossible, especially if you look to leverage that deal in other ways. Also, it is no surprise in the bigger context that despite only just talking about a ban on shirt sponsorship, clubs are now looking at other ways to activate those partnerships in other ways.

We expected clubs to go down this route, it does not make it impossible but gives you another hurdle to jump over having to communicate with LLDC over it.

It will be an interesting one to keep an eye on.”

Karren Brady is said to be at the heart of these discussions, and after her role to bring Daniel Kretinsky to the club, it would be no surprise to see her pull this one off.

West Ham United will need to do something special to replicate their current deal, which is said to be worth £10million, and this could be the key to that.
