West Ham United: Deadline Day loan exit for Divin Mubama must be sanctioned as transfer news emerges at London Stadium

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Frank McAvennie believes West Ham must sanction a deadline-day loan for Divin Mubama in order to get some much-needed minutes in his legs.

It is understood that Mubama is yet to agree to a new deal at West Ham (The Athletic, 30 January) given his limited minutes at the club but talks are expected to take place next month. West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday have already enquired about the situation.

Daily Mail journalist Simon Jones also reported (30 January) that Dutch outfit FC Twente are interested in signing the Rush Green youngster but West Ham are reluctant to allow him an exit from the club.

Twente are set to make a decision within the next 48 hours on which striker to pursue before the transfer deadline as, if they cannot find an agreement with Monaco, their full focus will move to Mubama (Voetbal Primeur, 31 January).

McAvennie told West Ham Zone: “You know what I think about this situation: If you’re not playing go out on loan.

“Players have got to have competitive games to find their form and Mubama doesn’t get that at West Ham. Anyone who isn’t playing, won’t be as sharp as they need to be.

“You know what, I feel sorry for him because he’s competing with Michail Antonio or Jarrod Bowen and obviously, they’re always going to be picked.

“When he does come on in games, he doesn’t look as ready for first-team levels and that’s because he’s not getting any games at all. He needs to be playing football.

“Let him go out on loan and if he impresses out on loan for the rest of the season, he’ll always have a shot when he gets back but the most important thing for him is to be playing.

“I don’t know why they’re not letting him go. With Antonio to come back from injury and Ings catching some fire again, he won’t play.”
