West Ham United: Daniel Kretinsky worth soars as Finance Expert reacts

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Ham United columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium...

Dan Plumley has insisted that it is only good news for West Ham United as Daniel Kretinsky continues to see his own wealth soar at the start of 2023.

On the Forbes live tracker, the Czech businessman finished 2022 with a wealth of £4.37billion, but that has already jumped to £7.4billion, nearly doubling.

The finance expert admitted that despite the deal not being fully in place for Kretinsky to complete his full takeover of the club, it is good news behind the scenes.

“Those figures would be good news,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.

“We often talk about club ownership and how people that are involved in ownership are tied to their own performance. It, therefore, stands to reason that as the owners are doing well, that is beneficial to the club.

“If the owners have their own businesses that are firing, their overall wealth is going up, then that can only be positive for the club they own, certainly in terms of long-term investment.

“That doesn’t mean they are going to go and spend £100million in the transfer market but for the long-term strategy of the club, that is really important. It is something that fans will want to keep an eye on more, as we’ve saw during the pandemic, it can go the other way.

“If the owners business stops firing, or they suffer a loss on trading conditions then that has a negative impact on the club, so at the minute for those numbers, that looks really positive for West Ham.

“I know the deal is not fully in place yet for the takeover but behind the scenes, the overall increase in net wealth for him as an individual should benefit the club if he is invested for the long term.”

Staying in the Premier League is huge, and West Ham United will know that.

It should then open the door for Kretinsky to complete his full takeover, although David Sullivan may not make that as easy as once thought it may be at the London Stadium.

This is certainly one to watch moving forward.
