West Ham United board slammed over ‘absolutely ridiculous’ behind-the-scenes decision

Frank McAvennie has slammed the West Ham United boardroom after the club’s ticket prices were released for the opening Premier League match.

With the Hammers set to face Manchester City in the first game of the 2024/25 season, fans could have to pay as much as £120 for some seats, which even applies to Under-18s, OAPs, and those eligible for accessibility tickets [Official website].

The new costs have caused outrage amongst the fans at the London Stadium, with McAvennie suggesting that games need to be affordable for families after following from the Upton Park days.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham News, he said: “I think it’s terrible, absolutely ridiculous. The whole point is that we’re a family club, moving from Upton Park so we can have affordable prices. These guys have spent their lives supporting West Ham and now, all of a sudden, the club don’t need them.

“That’s not the West Ham I know, the one that I grew to love. You can’t charge the same price for children of families to go – it’s the next generation! If you’ve got a wife and two kids, it’ll cost you a mortgage every week.”

West Ham United must rethink ticket prices after outrage

The loyal fanbase has every right to be disgusted with the greed shown by the people at the very top, treating the football club more as a business than anything else.

Football is a business, of course, and ultimately every club wants to make profits but that should not come at the expense of milking the supporters.

While the Hammers have been blessed with European football over the past three seasons, the hierarchy has shown a lack of regard to the role supporters played in helping achieve continental football in the first place.
