West Ham United backed to sell Michail Antonio amid Saudi Arabia interest
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie believes it would be a good move from West Ham to sell Michail Antonio to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq this summer.
The pundit believes the striker would do well in the Saudi Pro League amid interest in the player from the Saudi outfit, as per The Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg (17 July).
The club reportedly chasing Hammers forward Antonio are currently managed by former Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard.
Antonio found the back of the net 14 times from his 48 matches in all competitions last season, as well as chipping in with five assists.
As per BBC Sport, not including Europa Conference League qualifying matches, the Jamaican was the club’s top scorer in all competitions last time out.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “Would he do well? Of course he would. I think everyone would do well in Saudi at the moment.
“I just can’t believe we’ve not bought anyone yet, never mind selling players. I can’t believe we haven’t been in for anyone.
“I think if Antonio goes, it would be good for West Ham, because we’ll get more money for him if he goes abroad to Saudi.
“And it would be good for him, he might enjoy it over there. But I’m just so baffled that we’ve not signed anyone yet.”
In other West Ham news, an agent has mooted a Hammers move for one Champions League winner, with a deal there to be done.
