West Ham United backed for revolution after what Graham Potter’s done
West Ham United can experience a “revolution” under Graham Potter in the longer term after what he did at Brighton & Hove Albion, according to Ian Darke.
The TV commentator, speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, says Brighton are the solid outfit they are now with huge thanks to the new Hammers boss, who came in earlier this month to end a rudderless, short chapter under Julen Lopetegui.
The Irons visit Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon (26 January) in the Premier League, having already visited Villa Park during January in Potter’s first game.
“The clear thing here is that Potter has bided his time after what happened to him at Chelsea. He’s given himself the best part of two years to lick his wounds, and the West Ham job offers the kind of opportunity he had with Brighton,” Darke said.
“He was the guy that started all the excellent football there, the Brighton revolution to a team people liked to watch.
“Fans now will be hoping he can do the same with the team at the London Stadium – especially with the likes of Paqueta, Kudus and Bowen when he’s fit again.”
West Ham have free hit at rest of the season
Many claret and blue fans now believe their club can have a free hit and explore their project for the rest of this season, in preparation to do the business next time around.
The Irons sit 14th in the Premier League table ahead of the tricky trip to Villa Park, where they were knocked out of the FA Cup shortly after Potter’s unveiling.

The East Londoners are 10 points ahead of the drop zone having played a fewer game than several teams below them, while 10 points adrift of opponents Villa in eighth.
