West Ham United actively look for new deal after ban news – Finance Expert
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Ham United columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium...
Dan Plumley has insisted that West Ham United are well positioned to find another lucrative sponsor with the gambling ban coming into place soon.
BetWay currently pays £10million for the front-of-shirt sponsor at the London Stadium, the highest outside of the top six in the Premier League currently.
The finance expert admitted that it would be hard to replicate that again but there are ways to cover that with gambling companies not currently banned from sleeve sponsorship.

“We have to caveat that with the fact that deal was high and they did very well to get that deal,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.
“The betting sponsors in the Premier League have been at the £5-7million mark from what we can see, so that was above that and a good deal for West Ham. It was the best deal out of the big six as well, so you have that benchmark there so we have to context that.
“We know the club have actively been looking for new sponsors anyway as some of them could see this coming down the track. We know that it won’t be implemented straight away so it gives clubs time to transition and start dealing with new sponsors.
“I think West Ham are well positioned to get a new sponsor, whether or not they can get £10million is the question mark, but I think given some of the things that have happened at the club recently, Europe runs, well positioned to kick on in Premier League, there is no reason why they can’t match that figure in the future.
“Also, it doesn’t take gambling sponsors off the table so shirt sleeves are on the table and other deals with clubs are still an option so it may be they retain some of that anyway as well.”

This is certainly something to watch across the next few months.
With Daniel Kretinsky having the first option to increase his stake at the London Stadium, we could see more influence from the Czech Republic, that is where the deals can become very lucrative.
