West Ham United to take transfer ‘risk’ on £25m+ new signing at London Stadium

Dan Bardell has questioned if signing Matias Soule from Juventus is a wise decision by West Ham United given his sizable transfer valuation.

Gazzetta dello Sport reported on 17 July via their print edition that the Hammers have belief that they can seal a deal for the Argentine.

This is despite interest from Leicester City and Roma, with a fee in the region of £25.8m being mooted for the 21-year-old.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes the transfer window could be tough to navigate with Soule being a potential risk.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Bardell said: “It feels like that is a large outlay, to me.

I know the market for strikers and forwards is always very difficult to navigate and you’re almost waiting for other clubs to make moves for players to become available.

If that domino effect doesn’t happen then you have to sign a player who comes as a risk and I think Soule would fit into that bracket.

West Ham have spent so much money on forwards over the years and Antonio is still leading the line so I think they need to sign more of a sure thing.

I think his versatility to play across the front line makes him a more useful option than someone else can play up front in certain games.

West Ham United could still sign Matias Soule

The Hammers are in need of a forward option with Tim Steidten keen on bringing in additional talent this summer.

The German has already signed Luis Guilherme from Palmerias and now is looking to bring in another option in Soule.

The Juventus talent spent last season on loan with Frosinone, where he had a positive campaign and would make a useful addition at the London Stadium.

Signing him, especially for around £25m would represent a risk but could be one that pays off for years to come.

The only problem at this stage is seeing off other competition for the in-demand player, which is easier said than done.
