West Ham patience low with Julen Lopetegui after new transfer update

West Ham United will have little patience left with Julen Lopetegui after another defeat, according to Ian Darke.

The TV commentator lamented the club for their lack of progress under the Spaniard, with another defeat against Manchester City on Saturday

The Hammers have conceded nine goals in their last two games following the 4-1 defeat at The Etihad Stadium (4 January), but sit eight points clear of the drop zone.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Darke said: “I’m not sure they can do too much in January with all the players they brought in and the money they spent over the summer.

Some of those players haven’t played much, either. Their patience with Lopetegui will be wearing thin because he has to be getting a tune out of those players.

“If you don’t blame him, you have to blame the recruitment department. It’s not a good situation – you see them occasionally put in a terrific display that shows you what it might be, then they get put back in their box again in the next game.

“I don’t see them getting pulled into a relegation fight, but the transfer market isn’t really the answer. They should just be doing better with what they’ve got.”

West Ham United to sack Julen Lopetegui?

Following an unprecedented summer of spending at the London Stadium – and plenty of other ambitious targets just missed out on – West Ham fans approached 2024-25 in an excitable mood.

However, under Lopetegui, the club’s new era has yielded just six wins but nine defeats.

The Irons will believe they are far more capable of working towards further success and building on the iconic Conference League triumph of 2023.

Attention turns to the FA Cup next weekend for the Irons (10 January), who face a tricky tie at Aston Villa in which they will enter as underdogs.

Fulham and Crystal Palace then visit in the Premier League for London derbies, before a league return to Villa Park on 26 January.
