West Ham ‘most exciting in Premier League’ after what Julen Lopetegui did in transfer window
Dan Bardell believes Julen Lopetegui has levelled up his defence to match up with the quality that West Ham possess in attack
The Hammers had a busy transfer window in their first summer under the former Real Madrid manager, making ten signings.
It is clear that improvements to the backline were wanted with four of these additions being defensive-minded players.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell thinks that the club’s hierarchy have done well to back the new head coach with a positive transfer window.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Bardell said: “If you’re going to get a new manager in you’ve got to back him and that’s what West Ham have done.
“My concern would be is that there’s been a high turnover of players and that’s not always easy to blend a squad together.
“I just look at the players in behind the striker and in their attack think wow, they’re some of the most exciting in the Premier League.
“They are always going to score goals so Lopetegui had to do something with that defence and that is what he has done. I think they’ve had a really good window.“
West Ham make defensive improvements in transfer window
The Hammers have had one of the busier windows in the Premier League but haven’t just signed players for the sake of it.
Additions like Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jean-Clair Todibo and Max Kilman have caught the eye to hand Lopetegui’s side a solid base to play from.
Under David Moyes last campaign, the back line struggled with Kurt Zouma being moved on to Saudi Arabia for that exact reason [Santi Aouna].
Although it may take some time for the new signings to gel together under a new manager, there is plenty of potential for a positive season at the London Stadium.
