West Ham in ‘strange’ race for Carlos Soler amid James Ward-Prowse admission
Dan Bardell is surprised that West Ham want Carlos Soler after James Ward-Prowse was benched against Aston Villa.
The Hammers are in a two-way race with Everton to sign the 27-year-old with both sides exploring a deal with PSG [Florian Plettenberg].
Julen Lopetegui could look to bring the Spaniard before the transfer deadline with the Irons “planning the next steps” in their efforts.
Given that Ward-Prowse started the opening day as a substitute, Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has been left surprised by links to Soler.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Bardell said: “That is a strange one.
“I was quite surprised by it because they seem quite set in midfield. James Ward-Prowse was on the bench against Villa so you must have good strength if he’s a sub.
“I think there’s a point that West Ham could hit where they bring in too many players.
“I’d be surprised if Soler came in, even if he can operate in a few different roles.“
West Ham warned off Carlos Soler signing
After already making a whole host of transfers in the summer window, Tim Steidten and Co. need to know where the line is before it becomes too much.
It is very rare that a club can buy so many players and be successful in the Premier League and that is what is expected now at the London Stadium.
Lopetegui would seem to be better off utilising the members of his squad already and handing them opportunities before delving into the market once again.
Soler could prove to be a useful addition on a cut-price deal given his pedigree from his time with Valencia.

The options that are already available to the Spanish head coach mean someone has to leave before the end of the window whether that be Ward-Prowse or someone like Tomas Soucek.
