West Ham could not apply Kudus tax amid ‘damaged goods’ claim – Exclusive

Mohammed Kudus left West Ham to join Tottenham earlier this summer.

The Ghanaian winger earned a £55million move across the capital despite an underwhelming campaign at the London Stadium.

The former Ajax man notched five goals and three assists in the Premier League last season, and failed to improve on a remarkable first season with the Hammers.

West Ham avoid Tottenham tax with Kudus sale

There were thoughts that the Hammers could have applied a ‘Tottenham tax’ as they do not like doing business with their London rivals.

However, Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that the fee that the Irons received was fair, and they could not really have demanded more.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, he said: “I think in the end, business is business, so, £55m for a player who had gone off the boil and clearly wanted out of West Ham.

“I think the fans had fallen out of love with him because they felt his heart was not in it anymore, I think they would settle for that.

“I think there was a time when he might have been worth a tad more than that, but he is slightly damaged goods because of the season that he had last year.

“So, I would have thought that £55m was about right.”

West Ham must reinvest Kudus fee

As Darke states, the fee that the Irons got for the 38-cap international was fair, but they must now reinvest it in Graham Potter‘s squad.

They need additions in several positions if they are to rise up the table next season and David Sullivan and Co must ensure that Potter is given that money to spend.

They have been linked with the likes of Charlie Cresswell and Tyler Morton for deficiencies at centre-back and in midfield, but they will also need to replace Kudus on the flanks.

On his day, he is a livewire, and he could be a huge miss for Potter if they do not sort out a new man on the wings.

It is a pivotal summer for the East London outfit, and they must get it right, especially now they have been handed a new windfall.
