Tim Krul to be handed player-coach role as West Ham United transfer news emerges
Frank McAvennie believes Tim Krul would be offered a player-coach role after West Ham were linked with the goalkeeper.
According to Alan Nixon [16 June], the Hammers are looking to strike a deal with the veteran shot-stopper once his contract expires at Luton Town this summer.
While Krul is seen by Julen Lopetegui as a possible answer to the club’s third-choice ‘keeper problems, it is understood that the player will have first-choice options from other clubs.
McAvennie – speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone – believes the goalkeeper will have to settle for a different role at the London Stadium if he is to join this summer.
“If they bring Tim Krul in, I think he’ll be a coach as well as a keeper,” he said.
“He’s never going to challenge for the number one spot so he’d be coming in as a coach. That wouldn’t be a bad idea given his form and CV.”
Could Tim Krul be offered a player-coach role at West Ham United?
With Alphonse Areola likely to remain the first choice for the Hammers, and Lukasz Fabianski still under contract, Krul is unlikely to be gaining regular game time at the London Stadium.

At 36 years of age, Krul will need to understand that his game time will be limited next season unless he were to drop down a league or two, or even move abroad.
His previous experience at both club and international level would make him an interesting signing this summer, though it won’t get many fans up on their feet.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have set a date to sign a new forward, with a player already identified at the London Stadium.
