West Ham Zone speaking to Frank McAvennie

Two stints with the club and still a firm favourite with the fans all this time later, thanks to lines like these from his autobiography: “It was the tops. The place to be. I wouldn’t give a monkey’s what the pay was. I’d play for West Ham for free.” McAvennie will bring you all his latest opinions about the big news stories from West Ham.

Frank McAvennie is a huge fan of Brentford boss Thomas Frank but believes Julen Lopetegui will remain at West Ham for the foreseeable future.

Sky Sports presenter Dougie Critchley has backed the Dane to consider a move to the London Stadium if the current manager is to be sacked [Premier League YouTube channel], though the Spaniard is not understood to be under any immediate pressure [Fabrizio Romano].

The London club have experienced a difficult start to the 2024/25 campaign, winning just one of their first six Premier League matches, but McAvennie is sticking with the current manager.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: "I was talking about him before because he's been brilliant at Brentford. He's done great, they're well organised, play attractive football, but this new manager has only just come in.

"There was a chance to get him before this new manager, and him being in the Premier League is so much different because Lopetegui doesn't know the Premier League as well.

"I'm going to stick with this manager, though. He'll be hanging about for a while I think. I hope so. With the players at West Ham, they should be winning more games than they're losing."

Thomas Frank to replace Julen Lopetegui at West Ham United?

Frank has worked wonders since arriving at the Gtech Community Stadium in 2018, claiming promotion to the Premier League and keeping them in the division ever since.

The Bees' best finish in the Premier League came during the 2022/23 campaign, securing a ninth-place finish and just three points off the top-six spots.

Lopetegui's only season in the top tier of English football saw him finish fourteenth with Wolves.
