Tammy Abraham would join West Ham United as Roma look to raise transfer funds

Dan Bardell believes Tammy Abraham would welcome a move away from Roma to join West Ham United this summer.

The Serie A outfit could look to sell the Englishman for £20million amid interest from the Hammers, Aston Villa and Tottenham [The Telegraph].

With the news that Danny Ings is of interest to Southampton, according to the Daily Mail (18 June), West Ham need a new striker this summer.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested Abraham would be a good signing and that he would jump at the chance to return to England.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Bardell said: “He’s a player who I think West Ham fans would be happy to see because they’ve tried and failed to sign a replacement for Michail Antonio for a long time.

Tammy Abraham would probably be attracted to that move, knowing he’d be the number one striker. He’s a London boy and coming back to London might be attractive to him.

It’s a move that would make complete sense. I don’t think Roma have much of a transfer budget this summer so they’re going to have to move players on.

I think Abraham would fancy a move back to the Premier League and would certainly be attracted by a move to West Ham.

West Ham interested in Tammy Abraham

The Hammers have been in desperate need of a striker for many seasons and they just haven’t got it right over the years.

Signing experienced heads like Ings hasn’t worked, with the former Villa man failing to have any impact at the London Stadium since signing.

Even those who have gone on to do big things like Gianluca Scamacca and Sebastien Haller have faltered in East London.

Signing someone like Abraham is a sort of middle ground between these styles of strikers given his Premier League and European experience.

At £20m he could represent a good signing at a great price given the current state of the transfer market with PSR causing problems.

The 26-year-old would bring athleticism, height and pace to Julen Lopetegui’s side as a secondary option to Antonio, who may still yet have a part to play.

Tim Steidten has done well so far with the players he has shown interest in and Abraham can follow suit.
