Scott McTominay to shine at West Ham United as Manchester United exit development emerges
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie believes Scott McTominay would be a great signing for West Ham United as a replacement for Arsenal-bound Declan Rice.
McTominay, 26, has spent his entire professional career at Old Trafford but last season, the Scotland international was limited to just 10 starts in the Premier League due to injury and Casemeiro’s arrival pushing him down the pecking order.
The defensive midfielder has been linked with the Irons. On 21 June, The Telegraph reported that Man United were prepared to offer him in a player-plus-cash deal for Rice before Arsenal stole a march on signing the Hammers captain.

It is understood that West Ham are interested in McTominay as a replacement for Rice and McAvennie believes the Man United man, who’s been made available by Erik ten Hag, would be a good fit in the midfield.
“I think he’s a decent player but I just don’t think he’s a Man United player,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone.
“He’s a decent player and so is Maguire if he was to come to West Ham.
“McTominay would sit in there and do the Declan role. I don’t think there would be one problem with him sitting in there.
“I can see him in there with Soucek and Paqueta, that’s the three in the middle. Bowen and Benrahma out wide. It’s one of them. It’s just talk.

“McTominay isn’t going to get a game [at Man United] and the boy is going to want to play football. He wants to play week in and week out and I don’t think he’ll get that at Man United. Especially when they bring players in, because they’re going to bring players in aren’t they? He’s going to be further down the line.
“He always does the job for them when he comes in. Nothing spectacular, but then he goes to Scotland and he shines there.
“He’d be a good player for West Ham, yeah, definitely. He’d be one of the top players and he would get a game every week, that’s for sure.
“He’s got legs and he’s good at breaking from midfield to help the strikers.
“He would definitely be someone Moyes would want, but we’ll see how that one goes.”
McTominay reportedly earns £60,000-a-week at Man United [The Sun].
It remains to be seen if he’ll be interested in a move to the London Stadium.
In other West Ham news, Gianluca Di Marzio claims the Irons are about to make a £15million-plus bid for a new player.
