Pundit wowed by ‘exceptional’ West Ham United trio as David Moyes striker demand made for January transfer window

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie has urged David Moyes to go out and sign a striker to complement the “exceptional” West Ham United attacking weaponry at his disposal.

The Hammers have already been linked with a whole number of names this month, including Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke (FootballTransfers, 2 January) and Stuttgart hitman Serhou Guirassy as the futures of Michail Antonio and Danny Ings remain uncertain at the London Stadium.

Jarrod Bowen has been utilised as an auxiliary forward as a result of the uncertainty upfront at the club but to great effect as he continues his tremendous start to the season, scoring 11 goals and registering two assists.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “I think Moyes has done exceptionally well with what he’s got at the club, I mean we’ve got exceptional players at the club. We’ve got some really gifted players.

Players like Lucas Paqueta I really enjoy watching him, he is unbelievable, I love the backheels, the flicks and tricks, everything about him.

He, Bowen and Mohammed Kudus are exceptional together in my view and the way they’ve carried this attack for us this season is brilliant. I mean, what a trio that is, to watch them is a real sight.

We’ve got to bring a striker in who can complement those three. It’s got to be somebody that can link with them and can form a bond with them quickly. If Moyes can do that then he can take the team to another level.

It’s all good at the club at the moment, Moyes getting a new contract, and we’re currently sixth in the Premier League, into the Europa League knockout stages, playing some good football.

“But the demands I make are for that to be consistent and we definitely need a striker in this month, but it will be difficult.”
