Pundit: West Ham United should try to sign Liverpool ace Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on free transfer
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie believes Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would “love” to join West Ham this summer as he looks set to leave Anfield.
The former Arsenal ace is out of contract at the end of the season and is set to leave Liverpool with no new deal in sight, and West Ham has been mentioned as a potential destination as the club look to bolster the squad after their battle with relegation this season.
And McAvennie was asked about the potential of the 29-year-old returning to London with the Hammers this summer, and believes it’s something the player would be open to.

“Yeah I think he’s a good player, but you’ve got to play regularly,” he told West Ham Zone.
“If he gets a run of half a dozen games then you’d see the real Oxlade-Chamberlain because he’s a good player.
“Would he go? I think there’d be offers for him that’s for sure because he’s a good player.
“Would he come to West Ham? Of course he would because it’s London and he’d love that. I think he’d be a good fit. He’s a decent player.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain isn’t expected to be involved in the clash between the two sides on Wednesday at the London Stadium, having been left out of the match-day squad for each of the last four games.
So far this season he has managed one goal in 13 appearances in all competitions.
McAvennie has previously called for West Ham to move for more ready-made players, and Oxlade-Chamberlain would certainly fit the bill although his injury problems would certainly be a concern.
