Pundit: West Ham United should sign Michael Keane from Everton in January

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Frank McAvennie wants West Ham to sign Michael Keane from Everton in January to boost their defensive options amid their relegation battle.

Keane has been linked with a move to the London Stadium as his Everton future looks bleak having fallen way down the pecking order under Frank Lampard at Goodison Park.

But while the Hammers have looked at a potential loan deal for the player with 219 Premier League appearances to his name, some fans haven’t been best pleased with the link.

McAvennie however, feels that it could be a shrewd bit of business if they can convince him to move from one relegation battle to another.

“He’s been about forever,” he told West Ham Zone.

“We need a centre-back and 29 is a good age, you’ll get three or four good years out of him. That’s a good age, yeah.

“He’s a decent player, but he’s not getting a game for Everton. Going from one relegation team to another, but I would like him because from what I remember he’s a good player.

“I don’t know if he’d go to West Ham though. Why would you go from one team to another in the relegation battle? They bought Conor Coady didn’t they, so he’s not played much. Maybe that’s the thing.

“Anyone is better to brighten the defence up, because it’s all over the place at the moment.”

Keane is expected to be a target if Craig Dawson ends up leaving the club, with his wish to move back up north still present from the summer and his contract expiring in the summer.
