Pundit: West Ham United fans will still want David Moyes sacked even if he wins Europa Conference League

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Frank McAvennie believes West Ham fans will still want David Moyes to leave this summer even if he wins the Europa Conference League.

The Hammers reached their first European Cup final since 1976 where they will face Fiorentina in Prague, and have secured their Premier League status for next year after struggling with their form domestically all season.

And that form has seen Moyes linked with an exit away at the end of the season, although there have been some suggestions that the club will let him make the decision if he is successful in the Conference League final.

But fans are seemingly ready for change at the London Stadium this summer and McAvennie believes that the fans’ hunger for more attractive football means they’ll want him to leave regardless of the result in Prague.

“I think the circumstances are that there are going to be demands getting banded about,” he told West Ham Zone.

“Just purely because it’s not been a good season for them league wise. It’s unfortunate but David knows this.

“If he wins the cup the fans will love him, but they’ll still want change next year because they’re not playing good football.

“You see them play good football and you wonder why they’re not doing that all the time. Something has got to give. He knows it’s a results business but it’s not just a results business at West Ham, you’ve got to play good football.

“There’s not a West Ham way anymore, that went away years ago, but play attractive football that people enjoy watching. They can’t have another season like they’ve just had.”
