Pundit: West Ham United could look to sell Kurt Zouma in summer after new injury blow

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

West Ham could consider selling Kurt Zouma this summer after he suffered another injury blow last week, according to Frank McAvennie.

The Hammers defender has picked up several injuries this season, and suffered a quadriceps injury against Everton that is expected to rule him out for up to a month of action.

That follows several knee problems since joining plus the off-field controversy, and McAvennie feels that once they get him fit in the summer they could look to move him on and bring in another defender like Harry Maguire that they can rely on more.

“They’re not going to move him on if he’s injured, so they’ve got to get him back playing and then try and move him,” he told West Ham Zone.

“You’ll never move somebody if he’s injured because nobody will take a transfer on that.

“It’s a shame because he’s a good player. And Dawson’s moved, so they’ve not got anyone at centre-half basically.

“It’s a strange one for Moyes but they’re not going to try and move him on at the moment.

“You need two good centre-halves. You need good players. I don’t think the boys would be too concerned about getting Maguire in if you can get him in at a decent price,” he told West Ham Zone.

“I think he would shine there.”

McAvennie has previously stated that West Ham should move for Maguire in a deal worth no more than £20m.

Zouma’s absence and Dawson’s sale to Wolves means Nayef Aguerd and Angelo Ogbonna are the only fit first-team central defenders at the club, although Aaron Cresswell and Ben Johnson have played in the middle of a back three before this season too.
