‘I know for a fact’ – Pundit says West Ham United are not in form Gianluca Scamacca
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
West Ham have not made a move for Gianluca Scamacca in this window as they look for a striker in the “top range”, according to Frank McAvennie.
Reports have claimed that the Hammers made a bid worth £34m + add-ons for the Sassuolo striker, with the Serie A side accepting it [Alfredo Pedulla, July 15] and the player agreeing to the move. A move is said to be “progressing well“.
However according to McAvennie there has been no bid and the club aren’t interested in the Italy international, but says the club are looking for a striker and ideally one that can play up front on his own.

“It’s the price range,” he told West Ham Zone. “I know for a fact that West Ham are not in the market for him.
“They’re in the top range, which is wonderful as a West Ham supporter that they’re going that high. And it’s got to be top ends. People are buying, it’s just getting it right.
“David Moyes has got a great backroom staff, with Warburton coming in and Billy McKinley, they’re a great coaching staff there. Obviously we know with David he’s magnificent, and these boys all played football. So they know a player.
“So I’m hoping that the boys that come in will fit straight into the team. That’s the other thing that’s got to happen. Theyve got to fit straight into the team. They’re looking for a striker.
“I know that they’re looking in Brazil and Argentina and everywhere. Striker, yeah. If he’s half decent the fans will love him. But he’s got to be able to play on his own.

“They made a big mistake with Haller, they brough Haller in and he couldn’t play on his own up front. I had a go at the boy because he’s got to adapt, he’s a big lump, and he got the ball taken off him.
“So it’s got to be someone who can come in on his own, because David likes to play with one up front.
“With Antonio, if he decides to give the kid a rest then he’s got to come in with a lot of weight on his shoulders. A lot of expectation, but yeah it will be good to get someone else in.“
