Pundit warns West Ham United not to prioritise Premier League over FA Cup
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
West Ham have been warned not to prioritise the Premier League over the FA Cup as a cup run could galvanise the team into some good form.
The Hammers snapped a five-game losing streak with a 2-2 draw against Leeds in the Premier League in midweek, but now will look to take revenge against Brentford following defeat a couple of weeks ago.
But with a hectic schedule David Moyes could be tempted to shuffle his team up and rest players, but Frank McAvennie believes they should use the cup as a way to get their confidence up in a tough period.

“They’ve got a squad now, they’ll play a team [strong enough],” he told West Ham Zone.
“It’ll be tough, but it’ll be good if they can get a run going because it would be good for confidence.
“If they get beat they’ll say they were prioritising the league though. Just go for it. Get the boys’ confidence up, get them playing. That’s what I think. And it’ll be something for the fans.”
The Hammers got beaten 2-0 by Brentford in their final game of 2022 at the London Stadium, but will be out for revenge when they head to the Community Stadium on Saturday (7 January).
Brentford have just beaten Liverpool at home too so will be coming into this game in good form and full of confidence.
West Ham fans will be desperate to get some sort of positive vibes going, while Moyes is hopeful that a win could help to ease the pressure on his job as fans call for a change of leadership as soon as possible.
A win in the cup could help to lift morale at the club and hopefully transfer into league form and help them to pull away from the relegation battle they currently find themselves in.
