Pundit wants West Ham United to sign Scott McTominay as ‘good fit’ verdict shared

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie wants West Ham to sign Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay in the summer transfer window.

The pundit believes the Scotland international would be a “good fit” under David Moyes, having shone at international level in recent times.

The Hammers had a £30million bid rejected by Manchester United for the 26-year-old earlier this month, according to The Athletic (8 August).

The East London outfit have since signed two midfielders, with Edson Alvarez arriving from Ajax and James Ward-Prowse joining from Southampton.

It remains to be seen if the Hammers will go back in for Manchester United and Scotland ace McTominay, a deal that McAvennie would welcome with open arms at the London Stadium.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “McTominay is a good player, is he a Manchester United player? No. For some reason he just doesn’t fit, but he would fit in at West Ham, that’s for sure, he would be a great player.

“I see him for Scotland and I think ‘Wow.’ I don’t know why he isn’t doing that for Manchester United. Whether it’s different tactics, different management. But if he could do that for West Ham, I’d be more than happy. I would be delighted.”

McTominay came off the bench in his club’s Premier League opening match against Wolves on Monday (14 August), replacing Marcus Rashford in the 88th minute in the 1-0 win.

The midfielder has made over 200 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 19 goals and registering five assists along the way.

In other West Ham news, an international manager has shared a “disappointed” verdict about a “very good” Hammers player.
