Pundit wants West Ham United to sell Danny Ings on deadline day, better striker needed

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie wants West Ham to sell Danny Ings on deadline day in order for the striker to get more minutes elsewhere.

The 31-year-old, who joined the Hammers from Aston Villa in January, has been handed just 17 minutes of action by David Moyes this season.

Michail Antonio has been the number one striker so far, with the Jamaican international currently on two goals for the new Premier League campaign.

McAvennie believes Ings should be moved on before the transfer window closes, while he has also urged Moyes to bring in a new striker that can lead the line on his own, unlike the former Aston Villa man.

The 31-year-old has scored just three goals from his 24 appearances in all competitions for the London Stadium club.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “Danny Ings, I’d love to see him moving out because he’s not getting a game for West Ham, it’s a shame.

“I don’t think he can play up front on his own, and they won’t play two up front, so I can see him moving, even if it’s on loan.

“I would love to see Moyes bring in a striker who is going to fit the bill, because no matter how well Antonio is playing now, he’s not going to last the season, that’s for sure, he never does.

“He’s going to get injuries, he can’t play Ings or he’d have to change the system, so I’d love to see Moyes bring in someone who can lead the line and do it on his own.

“If Antonio gets injured or needs a break, then somebody can come in and, no matter what way the football is getting played, they don’t change it.”

In other West Ham news, Moyes has shared a Hammers transfer update as the deadline approaches.
