Pundit wants Jose Mourinho at West Ham United if David Moyes is sacked, he wants return to England

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Jose Mourinho wants a return to English football and Frank McAvennie would love to see him at West Ham if David Moyes was to be sacked.

The Hammers have found themselves in a relegation battle this season despite spending £170m in the summer and another £15m in January, with Moyes under pressure for his job in the long term.

McAvennie has previously stated that he would want the former Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham boss to replace Moyes if the Scot was to be sacked, and he now says that Mourinho wants a return to England which would make it easier to do although he continues to back Moyes to turn things around.

“They need to do something, they’re still 16th, 17th,” he told West Ham Zone.

“People were questioning my sanity when I said I’d love Mourinho. He wants to come back to English football. I would love him to be there.

“I don’t want David to get sacked, I want him to turn it around. But to play for someone like Mourinho would be incredible for me. I just think he’s a born winner. That can’t be a bad thing.

“I don’t want David sacked but I wouldn’t mind bringing Mourinho in, and I think the fans would accept him once they start climbing up the table.”

The Hammers have managed to go on a three-game unbeaten run recently, but are still just one point above the relegation zone as it stands.

Unless results turn around quickly, the pressure will only increase as fans turn against him and relegation becomes more of a possibility.

Mourinho is highly unlikely to leave AS Roma mid-season, but a summer appointment if West Ham are still in the Premier League surely couldn’t be ruled out if McAvennie is right about him wanting to come back to London.
