Pundit: Time for David Sullivan to sell West Ham United
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
David Sullivan should sell West Ham and allow a new owner with bigger ambitions to come in, according to former striker Frank McAvennie.
Sullivan has been linked with a bid to help buy Birmingham City [Daily Mail, May 10] the club he once owned in the past. But while he wouldn’t be the owner of the club, the links have called into question his commitment to the Hammers.
Now as the rumours continue to swirl, the former Scotland international has called for Sullivan to “sell up and go” and called for any new owner to try and purchase the London Stadium to take the club to the next level.

“From what I gather, he didn’t leave on good terms a few years ago with the supporters,” he told West Ham Zone.
“Listen, David Sullivan has been around for many years involved in football, if he wants to get involved with Birmingham then I would imagine.. you can’t do the two of them.
“So you know, it might be time for Mr. Sullivan to sell up and go and do what he’s wanting to do. If he wants to go to Birmingham and improve them, because that’s a good toy for him. Birmingham are where they are, and if he can get them up then the fans might turn around and like him.
“He’s done well at West Ham. He’s made a lot of money at West Ham, lets not beat about the bush, they all have.
“I would like to see whoever is going to be, in my personal opinion, whoever is going to own West Ham to get the government to sell that stadium and turn it into a football stadium. I’ve not got a problem where it is, I don’t, the size of the stadium would be great.
“West Ham should be the same as Tottenham, the same as Arsenal. They’ve got magnificent stadiums. Everything that happens in that stadium is down to Tottenham and Arsenal, whereas West Ham have not got a say what happens in their stadium which is not right. Not for me anyway.”
