Pundit tells West Ham United to sign Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney as £40m exit speculation emerges

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Frank McAvennie believes West Ham should try to sign Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney after it emerged he could leave the club for £40m this summer.

The Hammers spent big over the last two transfer windows, including the arrival of left-back Emerson Palmieri to compete with Aaron Cresswell for a starting spot this season.

But both players have struggled for form this season and with speculation that Newcastle are interested in a £40m deal for the Scotland international, McAvennie believes that West Ham should also be in the race for his signature.

“He’d be a great signing,” he told West Ham Zone.

I know the fans at West Ham and they would love him. Because he’d run through walls for you, and Moyes knows him.

“For me as a West Ham fan I would love him to go to West Ham.

“I’d love West Ham to go out and get him. I don’t know if they will, but oh God yeah it would be great.

“He can play centre-half, he can play left-back. No disrespect to Cresswell but he’s a younger, better version. And he’s a good defender. He’s a really good defender.

“First and foremost he’s a left-back. Every part of his game going forward is a bonus.

“I would love him at West Ham but I don’t know if they will. Because we don’t know what’s happening at the club now at the moment.

“We don’t know if there is a takeover, if Mr. Sullivan will sell, if Moyes will be there. But whatever manager came in would want to buy Tierney if they could.”
