Pundit tears Michail Antonio to shreds, predicts West Ham United exit after what he said

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Frank McAvennie has blasted Michail Antonio for his comments on a podcast about West Ham United’s style of play this season and predicted an exit this month.

The Jamaica international got a rare start in the Premier League and registered an assist as West Ham claimed a 2-0 win over Everton at the London Stadium.

But after Antonio made comments about the style of play before the game, McAvennie branded him as “disrespectful” and suggested he could leave the club before the transfer deadline next week.

“I’ve seen Antonio coming out now and having a go at the way they play,” he told West Ham Zone.

“That’s disrespectful now. He was on a podcast and he said we used to pump the ball long and try to get on the end of it, and now we’re trying to be a football team. And I’m saying there’s nothing wrong with trying to play football here.

“If you believe that they’re not doing it right keep it to yourself, don’t go on a podcast and talk about it, as if nobody is listening to you. It’s all over the place now.

“It’s a strange one. I think he could move, unfortunately for David. It can’t go on like this. When players come out talking about the manager it’s not a good sign.”

Antonio played well at the weekend but his performances this season have been a shadow of what they were last season and have contributed to the struggles the team have had.

The win over Everton saw West Ham move out of the relegation zone and they’re now one point above their rivals, and will look to build on the momentum from that win when they face Derby in the FA Cup fourth round on Monday (30 January).
