Pundit shares verdict on David Moyes sacking after West Ham United 4-0 defeat v Brighton

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Frank McAvennie believes David Sullivan will not be happy right now with West Ham as they battle relegation following a 4-0 defeat to Brighton.

The Hammers were battered by the Seagulls (4 March), leaving fans turning on David Moyes as manager and calling for a change of boss for this relegation battle.

And McAvennie believes West Ham are not too good to go down, and feels the club owner Sullivan can’t afford for the club to be relegated considering he wants to sell up in the near future.

“I like David, I know him as a person. But it’s a results based business and he’s not getting results. If he doesn’t start winning, he won’t be there. It’s a situation that, it’s a strange one at the moment.

“People say they’re too good to go down, but that’s a load of nonsense.

“We’ll see because teams around them are seeming to get results at the moment, and they’re not. I think he’s on a shaky peg as they call it. I’ve got a lot of respect for David.

“I would think David has got to turn it around very quick, I just think they’re very negative. They’ve got to go and play. They’re so defensive minded.

“The boys don’t seem the same to me as last year. You could see them all laughing and joking, they were playing wonderful football. What’s happened to that?

I don’t know what it is, but something is not right. They can’t afford to go down. They can never afford to go down. Especially if the owners are going to sell it. Mr. Sullivan won’t be happy, he’d lose a few bob.”
