Pundit shares ‘no excuses’ West Ham United verdict after 1-0 win v Lincoln City
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie believes West Ham have to try and win this season’s League Cup after their 1-0 win against Lincoln City.
Tomas Soucek scored the only goal of the game in the third round victory away from home on Wednesday (27 September).
David Moyes’s side have been drawn against London rivals Arsenal in the round of 16, with that match scheduled for the end of next month.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “It wasn’t a bad team Moyes had out. It was good enough to go and win. But against Arsenal, is he going to play the same team? No. I hope not.
“They will play a weakened team, so you’ve got to go at them. There should be no excuses, go and try and beat them and get to the final.
“It would be nice to get to Wembley. You don’t see them get there often. Go and have a go, they won’t win the league this season, and Manchester City are already out, so go for it.”

Premier League leaders Manchester City were knocked out by Newcastle United in the third round, with fellow top flight clubs Brighton, Brentford, Aston Villa, Wolves and Crystal Palace also falling at that hurdle.
More Premier League clubs will head out in the next round, with Everton taking on Burnley, Manchester United taking on Newcastle and Bournemouth taking on Liverpool.
In other West Ham news, a Premier League journalist has slammed Moyes and has mooted a “worrying pattern” for the club.
