Pundit shares ‘incredible’ West Ham United fan feeling as ‘nonsense’ claim made

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie believes West Ham fans will not accept that players of the club can be tired at this stage of the season.

The verdict comes amid a busy run of fixtures for the Hammers, who are competing in the Premier League, Europa League and League Cup.

The East London outfit have just one win from their last six matches in all competitions, with one draw and four losses.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “I would like to see us going for everything. All this nonsense about being tired. People work 12 hours a day, these guys are just running about and kicking a ball for a couple of hours.

“It was a pleasure when I played. I can’t see how the fans would accept players being tired, especially at the start of November.

“I would be going for a cup. The delight that we got from winning the Conference League, I’ve never seen so many happy people, it was incredible.

“If I was David Moyes I’d go for another cup, because they aren’t going to win the league. We’re going to be in the league, but I would love to go for the cup.”

It’s been a very tricky period for Moyes and his players, with the Hammers slipping down the Premier League table after their strong start to the campaign.

They have also lost ground in the Europa League after falling to defeat away to Olympiacos, with revenge on the cards in the reverse fixture on Thursday (9 November).

There has at least been some recent fan joy, with the Hammers defeating London rivals Arsenal 3-1 in the League Cup round of 16 last Wednesday (1 November).

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are waiting in line to sign a Serie A star, with a summer transfer on the cards for the player.
